Giuseppe “The Godfather” DeNatale Stops John “The Panther” James in Three Rounds to Earn the ISKA North American Heavyweight Muaythai Title!

Prairie Bros. Promotions in association with Canadian Kickboxing and Muay Thai Centre blew the top off the Duckworth Centre as over 2,000 rabid Kickboxing fans were treated to an awesome night of non-stop Muaythai action in Gladiators Kickboxing "Friday the 13th." If tonight's show is any indication of things to come, Winnipeg brace yourself, you've got some great shows coming your way.

Despite an excellent effort and the fight name “The Panther” (a large black cat), Friday the 13th failed to bring John James luck as he fell prey to Giuseppe "The Godfather" DeNatale in front of a capacity partisan crowd that was neither superstitious or afraid of black cats.

Nonetheless, the 39-fight veteran with 25 KO’s hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan opened the contest aggressively going straight after “The Godfather” in his hometown of Winnipeg. James moved well and fired vicious right hands that contacted cleanly to the head of DeNatale.

Giuseppe, who weighed in at a very lean 207 lbs. was obviously very well prepared for the fight (and also possesses one of the best chins in the business). Despite James’s respectable punching power, Giuseppe proceeded as if he hadn't even noticed he’d been hit. At about the half way point of round one The Panther banged DeNatale with a back leg round kick to the head that finally got The Godfather’s attention… momentarily. Later that night James was quoted saying, “I’ve KO’d many fighters with shots that weren't nearly that clean…. I can’t believe that he was able to just walk right through them!” After the The Panther’s round kick scored, DeNatale took control. Just prior to the end of the first round he scored with a low kick that would have put James down had he not grabbed the top ring rope to keep himself off of the canvas. The second round was all DeNatale, with The Godfather scoring well every time he pitched.

At about halfway through the round James went down from a low-kick, left hook, high-kick combination with the final kick contacting hard to The Panther's temple. Though he went down hard James easily beat the count. DeNatale pressed the attack moving inside and putting James down a second time with a strong knee to the body.

The end came at twenty-two seconds of round three with James, to his credit, launching an excellent punching combination which DeNatale defended nicely then fired back with a bout-ending, crushing left hook that put The Panther down and out. The KO also delivered DeNatale the ISKA North American Heavyweight Muaythai Title and championship belt that goes along with the hard fought victory.

John James, who had just recently won an eight-man heavyweight tournament, accepted the defeat with good humor and grace, saying "tonight the best man won." He proved once again that The Panther's a class act who can put on a great show.

Giuseppe DeNatale now looks forward to a potential bout in Italy for an Intercontinental Heavyweight Title.

In another feature bout, Mark Durant took a huge career step, actually a gigantic career leap to say the least. In only his second pro fight he entered the ring against Marc “House of Pain” Bourgeois who has compiled an impressive 36 –6 record with an even more impressive 31 KO’s.

But that's what paper is for. Keeping track of records. You can throw all that out once you enter the ring and tonight was no exception.

Durant, with excellent corner work provided by David Horvath, used precise movement and an effective combination of strikes to win each and every round, thus gaining a well-earned unanimous decision over a much more experienced opponent. Look for a possible barn burning rematch down the line.

Congratulations to David Horvath, Prairie Bros. Promotions and the entire Canadian Kickboxing and Muay Thai organization for a well-produced, and very exciting event.

Giuseppe “The Godfather” DeNatale Defeats Dan “The Lizard” Lucas Earning the I.S.K.A. North American Oriental Rules Heavyweight Title!

The Main Event: Five rounds of Oriental Rules Kickboxing for the I.S.K.A. North American Heavyweight Crown! Both fighters looked very fit and ready with Rochester, New York’s Dan “The Lizard” Lucas weighing in at 206 lbs. and Winnipeg’s Giuseppe “The Godfather” DeNatale weighing a lean 205.

When the opening bell sounded, “The Godfather” moved across the ring and quickly attached with a barrage of low kicks. Lucas checked the kicks skillfully and fired his potent right hand over the top hitting DeNatale flush on the face. Giuseppe took only a single step back and set for his next attack. Lucas got off first, advancing with a jab-cross combination that once again scored cleanly. DeNatale took it well and fired back with both hands. At only a minute into the bout, the fight appeared to be fiercely competitive with both camps having a strong idea of what they need to do in order to win.

DeNatale launched yet another assault on “The Lizards” legs that accidentally resulted in a hard groin shot. As Lucas was given time to recover, I couldn’t help but think back to the two groin shots that Giuseppe had endured in his last year’s classic match-up with Kurt Hasley in Milwaukee.

When the action resumed, Lucas again got off first with his powerful jab-cross combination. DeNatale followed with a combination that drove Dan to the ropes. Once inside, Giuseppe went to work masterfully with both hands to the body and head, and vicious knee strikes up the middle. Lucas retreated to his corner with DeNatale in hot pursuit.

Again the Godfather worked hard with hands and knees on the inside, forcing Lucas to crouch in defense. As Lucas stood back up, Giuseppe fired an awesome, high roundhouse kick that caught Lucas perfectly right behind the head. He went straight down on all fours as world-class referee Al Wichgers sent DeNatale to the neutral corner.

Wichgers counted to ten and it was all over as the "Soprano's" theme blasted and wild cheering from an excited and very appreciative Harley crowd roared on. At 2:06 of the first round Giuseppe “The Godfather” DeNatale earned the KO victory and the North American Heavyweight Crown.
